Ain't I Cute?Yep, that's me to the left. My name is Lorne Laliberte. I'm 27 years old, and very happily married to a wonderful woman named Michelle. I like writing, singing, cycling, canoeing, working on my computer, playing games on my computer, fixing my computer...basically spending way too much time on my computer. I also like hiking. Skiing. Science Fiction. Chinese food. Canadian music. Renting movies. Going to the movies. War movies. Eatmores (and Coffee Crisps). History. Airplanes. Wolves. Cats. Teasing my mother-in-law. Getting mail. Knowing where I am. Knowing what I'm doing. Being loved. The son of a tall dad and a tiny mom, I was once a respectable 5' 11" tall, but as I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis I have since shrunk to only 5' 9 1/2" tall. I refuse to be bothered by this since I can still grab things off the top shelves for little old ladies at the grocery store. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go...I've worked as a farm hand, a service station attendant (which is a fancy way of saying I pumped gas), a customer service representative, a groundskeeper, a VBA programmer, a device driver programmer, a webmaster, a writer and a game designer. At one point I even completed a fast-paced computer programming course to get some papers to prove my abilities. You can see the test results I achieved through the course if you'd like. At the moment I'm helping put the finishing touches on a PC adventure game called Gilbert Goodmate and the Mushroom of Phungoria for a Swedish computer game company called Prelusion. Prelusion put together an incredibly talented international team, and I'm honoured to have been selected as the Lead Writer for the project. Despite the nice title I was also the only writer on the project, which means I had my work cut out for me. I got to meet some of the team when I flew to Stockholm in September to supervise the voice actors. Although we ran into a lot of unexpected hurdles, we managed to get done on budget and ahead of schedule, and after two weeks of hard work and fun, I managed to make it home safe and sound. Of course, the hard work didn't end there. Right now I'm working on the sound files, editing the voice recordings into smaller pieces to synchronize with the on-screen text. I'm also looking for work as a game designer, web developer, writer or programmer -- if you have any job leads, please let me know. That's lifeRight now it seems my life is overflowing. Michelle and I have suffered through some very tough breaks, but I'm too optimistic to let it bother me much. What does bother me is that I'm not finding enough time for all the things I need to do. Like my writing, and working on my truck, and working on this web site, and.... But I've accomplished a lot in the past few years. Meeting and marrying Michelle was the reward of a lifetime...I don't know what I'm going to do in my life to have deserved her, but it ought to be interesting. And moving from the country to the city, where there are just too many people around for this country boy's liking, wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. Just ask Tom CochraneI guess I'm growing up. I've gone from "Outside on the run" at 21 through "Hungry and we had drive" at 25 on the Tom Cochrane Boy Inside The Man scale. Like the song goes..."and I turned much older then, ah 'cause the boy was lost in pride." Now when am I going to be "hit hard by the light so bright it burned?" Anyone feel like "running from the boy inside" me? Did I mention I'm a bit of a kook? :) And I like myself too. I'm not quite shouting "who's the greatest in the world, and why am I so great?" just yet, but I do think I have the potential to be more than just your average guy. That's one of the neat things about life...there's so much that could happen. I could cure cancer. (Well, not likely, but Michelle says I put so many different spices in my pizza sauce that I'm bound to discover a cure for something.) I could figure out a grand unified Theory of Everything and then maybe some day someone would make an unlikely romantic film about me starring Matthew Broderick. I could go on and on quoting Tom Cochrane lyrics for pages and pages too. But I think I'll just let you visit the rest of my site instead. :) |
