skip the intro, let's see the list of poems
I've always had a knack for poetry. I haven't always had something very poetic to say, mind you, and I haven't written much poetry so far. Despite having decided to be a writer before age 12, I never really thought about poetry until high school, when I was forced to write some poems for an English class. But I'm glad I did.
I discovered that poetry comes fairly easily to me. It's certainly a lot easier for me to write than just about anything else I've tried. I suspect my love of music has a lot to do with it. When I'm writing a poem, each line's rhyme and rhythm leads me to the next as though the words were waving semaphores at my subconscious. Rhythm and rhyme come very naturally to me, so it often feels like the poem is writing itself.
But I don't really consider myself a poet. My poetry doesn't pretend to be cutting edge; I haven't read enough modern poetry to recognize the edge if I fell over it. I haven't written enough to call my poems a collection or fill a book of poems with them. And I don't doubt my poems are simple things; some of them even seem so to me. :) But they are mine, and if there's one thing poems are meant to be, it's shared.
So, here are some of the poems I've written, along with a brief foreword and afterword for each one. I've arranged them in alphabetical order for ease of maintenance, so if you don't have much time to browse, be sure to read The Anthill, Rejected and The Fox, which are my personal favorites.
I hope you enjoy them and welcome any feedback you care to give.

I do know your preference for which briefs I sport,
And you've kindly supplied me a pile of clean shorts.
Those shorts that are sexy look good on your man,
But I just cannot wear them. I must make a stand!

Is it blind in its cellular orgy to fate?

Remember how it started?
You and I, mismatched
But brought together,
Both in need of something neither
Of us could control...

A very strange thing has come over me,
Strange and strong and true,
Simple "coincidence" I don't think it is
That it started when I first met you...

Am I awake?
Toss and twist and turn
In bed - am I asleep?
This pain is nightmare...

I contain my emotions at first,
But there comes as a thief
Something airy, running through and by,
And stealing swiftly pieces of my
Self-controlling conscience...

I found an anthill in the ground,
The sun was shining bright that day,
And from beneath the sink I found
A spray bottle with which to play...

A terrible noise this morn did wake
The farmer from his dreamy state,
To find that, rising with the morn
Was chaos in its truest form...

There once was a very swift man,
Whose pants got caught in a fan...

Why does man always resort
To killing animals by sport?

So you're just a common soldier,
Living out a war,
Running from the danger,
Nothing to fight for...

One calm night,
the stars shone brightly
on a small, sandy beach
by the ocean...
