A showcase for the incredible steel sculpture of Canadian artist Dave Laliberte
|
It's hard to believe these sculptures start out as dark, dirty pieces of steel. All of Dave's sculptures are created from raw materials -- they aren't cast or poured into molds. They're cut, shaped and formed from cold, hard steel, and then heated in special ways to bring out the natural colours hidden in the metal. It is incredibly difficult to work with steel; it takes an intimate knowledge of materials and tools, some of which Dave has had to develop himself. This is part of the magic of Dave's work, that something so beautiful can be made from such hard, impenetrable stuff. |
