Butterflies

Works in steel by Canadian artist Dave Laliberte

Butterfly

Delicately Beautiful

When Dave was working on his family's home many years ago, he was visited by a beautiful butterfly that landed on his hand. The butterfly went from Dave to each member of his family, resting for a moment on each of their hands. All the stress of trying to build a house disappeared, replaced by the butterfly's calming trust.

It was an event none of the Lalibertes will ever forget. The Butterfly became a motif for the Laliberte home, taking shape in carefully placed stones, being firebranded onto flower boxes and carved in steel on hand-crafted hinges.

Of course, one of the first pieces Dave ever sculpted in steel was a butterfly. Although it seemed impressive then, it was only a rough ancestor to the butterflies Dave makes today.

Each butterfly Dave creates is unique, each one revealing a different blend of colours in the steel it is made from. They look delicate but are, of course, strong as steel.

Dave's butterflies stand about three to four inches tall and make excellent gifts.
