Hummingbird

A work in steel by Canadian artist Dave Laliberte

Hummingbird

Hovering in Midair

The hummingbird pictured here is one of the first Dave ever created. It uses the strength of steel to great effect: the hummingbird is attached to the flower only at the tip of its beak, adding to the impression that it is actually hovering in midair as it feeds.

Over the years Dave has improved his technique and the hummingbirds Dave creates today are even more delicate and finely crafted. They're also closer to the real bird's size, which is a bit smaller than this first piece.

Dave has made and sold several different hummingbirds, including pieces with more than one hummingbird and one special sculpture that was made to hang delicately from a steel bracket on a wall.
