A work in steel by Canadian artist Dave Laliberte
|
The Majestic Bald EagleThis was one of the first pieces Dave created in steel and marked the beginning of his promising career as an artist. Standing 26-and-a-half inches tall, the life-size bald eagle in its magnificent pose caused quite a stir when it was finished and introduced to Dave's household. The family cat was visibly disturbed by this large bird at first, a telling testimony of how Dave's pieces seem somehow more than inert steel. Its presence was also felt by Dave's family, so much so that Dave decided to give the balding bird a name: "Tork." As strange a name as that was, it seemed to fit. Tork has been prominently featured in the Laliberte home, participating in parties and invariably drawing the awe-filled question: "Wow, how heavy is it?" It is, in fact, light for its size, weighing a little over 100 pounds. |
